My Eyelid Surgery

My personal experience with Blepharoplasty

My Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure which is designed to provide a more youthful appearance to the eye. Sometime this procedure is necessary to improve vision, in this case extra skin of the upper eyelids droop to such an extent that it interfered with in my peripheral vision.

Every time I have had a long day my eyes get tired and I begin to my age which is fast approaching 63.
As skin ages, it slowly loses its elasticity. A lack of elasticity together with the constant drag from gravity causes too much skin to collect in the upper and lower eyelids. Excess skin on the lower eyelid causes wrinkles and bulges and on the upper eyelids an extra fold of skin forms which falls over the eyelashes and interfere with vision. Swelling in the upper and lower eyelids can also be caused by the fat that cushions the eyeball from the skull. The skinny covering that holds the fat in place weakens with age, allowing the fat to stick out into the lids.

The decision to have the Blepharoplasty procedure came after so many people told me I looked tired even though I just had a few days rest.

My plastic surgeon Dr Yap Lok Huei recommended Upper eyelids surgery since my tired look was due to the droopy eyelids.

The surgery took about an hour under local anesthetic on Friday 17th August at RE-Plastic Surgery Clinic. I was expecting some pain but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t really hurt at all. After the surgery I was advised to give my eyes a rest away from computer and television. I was given moisturising eyedrops to be applied regularly and ‘panadol’ (mild analgesic) to take if I experienced any discomfort. I certainly needed the eye drop and stayed away from my computer for a few days but the discomfort was so minimal that I didn’t bother with the ‘panadol’.

My recovery from the surgery was quick and I only had minor bruising which disappeared a few days later. The incision healed up beautifully and after a week the stitches were removed.

Now I look and feel rejuvenated and have much better vision and thoroughly recommend it for you if you experience the same problem as I did!
