The term infertility is generally used when a couple fail to conceive after they have tried to have a baby for about a year. Finding the specific medical reasons that cause infertility is the most important part of the medical evaluation.
For women the following are tests generally required:
- Blood type, rhesus factor
- Infectious screening ( VDRL (syphilis), HIV , Hepatitis B )
- FBC (full blood count)
- FSH, LH (hormone tests performed between the 1st and 3rd day of the menstrual cycle)
- Prolactin and TSH ( thyroid stimulating hormone ) in certain indicated cases.
- AMH for ovarian reserve
For men the following are tests generally required:
- Semen analysis.
- Blood type, rhesus factor
- Infectious screening ( VDRL (syphilis), HIV , Hepatitis B )
- FBC (full blood count)
- FSH , LH , Estradiol , Prolactin , TSH , Testosterone ( case of zero sperm -azoospermia)
